“In my early professional years I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?” -Carl Rogers, 20th century American psychologist.
In the spirit of the quote above, Angelica approaches body therapy from the perspective of developing lasting relationships with her clients. With nearly eight years of hands-on experience, she brings a variety of skills to her sessions that enable her to maximize the therapeutic benefit in a minimum of time. She specializes in applying massage therapy solutions to chronic pain, injuries and stress.
After graduating from Mueller College of Holistic Studies here in San Diego, she continued her education with Hugh Milne, founder of “Visionary” Craniosacral therapy, a deeply meditative and restorative modality. At SK Sanctuary, owned by Lyn Krant and Dr. Stephen Krant, she acquired specialized training in lymphatic drainage techniques that were applied to pre- and post-operative plastic surgery patients. She is now being personally mentored by Dr. Myk Hungerford, founder of the Sports Massage Training Institute. Dr. Myk is a recipient of one of the “Greats of the 20th Century” awards and was declared to be one of the foremost authorities in the field of massage therapy.
Angelica uses a whole-body approach that can be reduced to three steps. First, she’ll use deep tissue, neuromuscular and sports massage techniques to take away any pain. When the pain is gone, she’ll then use Swedish and lymphatic techniques to reduce any persistent inflammation or swelling in the tissues. When the nervous system has released these over-stimulated states, she uses craniosacral therapy and acupressure to teach the body deep and healing states of relaxation. Using this system, she is able to design treatments that address each client’s particular needs and goals.
Angelica has also spent the last three years sharing her passion for massage therapy with the students as Maric College San Diego. As an educator, her mission is to help students develop their own meaningful relationship with this profession and its many benefits.
“One of my greatest joys in life is helping people feel better. From gross to subtle, stress to relaxation, injury to health, I deeply value the connections and journeys I take with my clients. Thank you all for the trust you place in me to serve your needs.” - Angelica Martinez
